First LTE phone on MetroPCS is named Samsung Craft

A few days after its FCC approval, the Samsung SCH-r900 got confirmed as the first phone to appear on MetroPCS's LTE network by CEO Roger Linquist. On a conference call he shared some more info about the handset – it will cost around $300, and will actually be called the Samsung Craft. Samsung is the LTE gear provider for MetroPCS's Las Vegas network, so no wonder they will come up with the handset to match, too.

MetroPCS hopes to have its whole LTE network up and running by early 2011, but it will be available in two pilot areas – Las Vegas and Dallas Fort Worth – as soon as this year. It will be interesting to see if the small carrier beats the Verizon behemoth to be the first to market an LTE handset.

The Samsung phone in the picture below was at this and last year's CTIA show, so this could be what the Craft will look like, but might as well be an LTE phone mockup.
