We don't know what Motorola devices will receive Android 9.0 Pie and when

Six Sony smartphones, four HTCs, and four Huaweis have already had their Android Pie eligibility confirmed, looking at official 9.0 updates in the not too distant future, along with a few other devices that got to beta-test the latest OS revision before it was generally released.
Unfortunately, Motorola doesn’t appear to have learned a thing from its Oreo missteps that earned Lenovo’s daughter company a shameful “loser” verdict in our in-depth analysis of the current state of Android updates.

It’s obviously a little too early to expect a full, detailed and specific Android 9 Pie roadmap, but surely, a couple of names of Moto-branded handsets slated for an impending update could have been confirmed.

Instead, we’re simply reminded Android 9.0 Pie is “fully released”, and because upgrades are apparently about “getting it right and making sure the phone performance remains the best it can be”, Motorola will only “share upgrade plans for our products and more specific timing later.”

In the meantime, we’re supposed to rest assured knowing Lenovo’s subsidiary will “begin working on the new code for our devices.” Wait, so the company hasn’t even started working on upgrades for phones like the Moto Z3 and Z3 Play?! That sounds disheartening, to say the least, although not entirely surprising. After all, this is a brand that released the respectable Moto X4 around a year ago, barely bringing Oreo goodies to the non-Android One version a couple of months back. View Full Bio
